Our School Day

The School Day. Early Years Foundation Stage

* Foundation 1 (Nursery): 3 – 4 years old We offer Nursery sessions for 5 mornings or 5 afternoons a week, either from 8.30am to 11.30am or 12.30pm to 3.30pm. Staff will open the gate to the Nursery setting just prior to the start time of the session and close it 20 minutes later. Parents are welcome to stay in Nursery for the first 20 minutes of either session to share with their child the start of their day. Children are assigned to a registration group of 12 children in each, the Blue, Green, Orange, Purple or Red group. The Nursery timetable is broadly as follows:

* Free flow activities with access to snack table

* Circle time with phonics, maths, ICT, Physical Dev. focus

* Free flow opportunities with Adult Led activities for children to access e.g. fruit printing, obstacle courses, etc. with continuing access to snack

* Tidy up inside/outside

* Story/Singing

* Home time back in corners with plenary of the day

* Foundation 2 (Reception): 4 – 5 years old The School day begins at 8.55am and ends at 3.00pm for all children in Foundation 2. Children arrive on the back playground from 8.45am and when the whistle blows at 8.55 am the children line up, in classes. The Teacher and Teaching Assistant walk the children into class and the day starts at 9.00am. Children are dismissed from the same place on the back playground, between 3.05 – 3.10pm. The following timetable is broadly as follows: (N.B. times of sessions will vary throughout the year in response to children’s needs e.g. Writing sessions may be extended when the children are ‘ready to write’.

Through the day, the children will take part in adult led activities, child initiated play and supported play.

Key Stage 1.

In Years 1 and 2 children arrive on the back playground from 8.45am and when the whistle blows at 8.55 am the children line up, in classes. The Teacher and Teaching Assistant walk the children into class and the day starts with registration at 9.00am. Children are dismissed from the back playground between 3.05 – 3.10pm.

* Year 1: 5 – 6 years old Throughout the day the children will take part in adult led activities and adult initiated play in The following timetable is broadly as follows:

* Topic (RE, Humanities, science)

* PE, Computing, Music

* Year 2: 6 – 7 years old The children are taught in ability or mixed ability groups within a whole class, either teacher led, adult supported or independently. The approach is more formal as children can concentrate for longer periods of time. The following timetable is broadly as follows:

* Guided Reading

* Topic (RE, Humanities, science)

* PE, Computing, Music

Morning Playtimes: Early Years Foundation Stage children enjoy free flow periods during their sessions in school and child initiated play which means that designated ‘playtimes’ are not timetabled for F1and F2 children. Years 1 and 2 have a 15 minute designated playtime in the mornings.

Lunchtimes: All children in main school all day (F2, Y1, Y2) are entitled to a free, hot school meal as per the Universal Infant Free School Meal (UIFSM) initiative introduced by the Government from September 2014. Foundation 1 children do not qualify although if they subscribe to the Wraparound Care that includes the lunch period from 11.30am – 12.30pm then these children can access a free hot school lunch as part of the offer. Lunchtime is from 11.45am to 1.00pm.

Assembly times: Whole School Assemblies take place on Thursdays and Fridays at 11.45 am

Year Group assemblies happen at other times during the week. Thursday is our Values Assembly where we may focus on any one or more of our 6 Values: Virtue, Aspiration, Loyalty, Unity, Empathy and Self-Respect through a story and discussion or we celebrate special days in history or specific religions e.g. Guy Fawkes day, Remembrance day, Diwali, St. George’s day. Friday is our Celebration’s Assembly when any child who has received a certificate, medal, cup, badge or recognition in any other way, of achievements out of school, take their place on the stage and their success story is shared with all the children who applaud their efforts.

Activity Club: The school offers a club facility to all children from 8.00 – 9.00am and again from3.00 – 4.00pm, for a voluntary contribution of £1 per half hour. The parents complete a booking form for this. However the school will take last minute bookings that are phoned in on the day to support families.
