Friends of bedgrove infant school
Formerly known as the PTA
In September 2018 the Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) rebranded themselves to the Friends of Bedgrove Infant School (FoBIS). The move away from the traditional name is owing to a shift in the dynamics of our pupil’s main carers. As more and more parents work, grandparents, family members or childminders are stepping in to fill the role. In today’s modern society we felt that we needed to be inclusive of this, and as a result rebranded and invited all of these carers to become part of the “Friends team” and entrust in our belief, “Together we can achieve”.
Who makes up the Friends of ?
FoBIS is managed by an Elected committee which consists of a Chair, Vice-Chairs, Treasurer and Secretary. Once a year we hold an Annual General Meeting at which these roles are elected and an annual report of our activities are presented.
Your 2018/19 committee:
CHAIR Kerry King
SECRETARY Liz Smith
VICE CHAIRS Claire Ashton Melissa Hovell
TREASURER Claire Lewis-Smith
The Elected committee then hold termly meetings where everyone is invited and welcomed. These friendly meetings are invaluable, and enable the Elected committee to work alongside other parents, grandparents etc who form the General committee. Holding a wider meeting like this allows for all of our members to be involved in decision making, event planning, idea forming and new fundraising conceptions.
Always on the lookout for new members, the General meeting’s take place once a term. Please view the School’s calendar of events to see when the next meeting will take place. We look forward to welcoming you.
Our aim, our goals and our success
Our sole purpose in being is to raise funds which are then spent on enhancing the pupil’s learning journey’s and to support the school and it’s staff with resources and
equipment. At the same time, FoBIS try to provide a range of activities, events and treats which the children can enjoy, a number of fun events for all the family and even some great nights out for parents! In doing so we aim to help create a greater sense of community for the school – enabling parents to feel more a part of their child’s world.
Consistently over the last few years, Friends of Bedgrove Infant School have been highly successful and raised over £8,500 per year in both 2016/17 and 2017/18. We are so thankful for the continuous support of our parents and volunteers, without whom we could not have bought iPads, gardening resources, paid for school trips, bought new costumes for school plays, whiteboards for classrooms, a wide variety of library books and equipment for the Snug. We hope that 2018/19 will be even more brilliant!
FoBIS cannot operate without all those parents, carers and teachers who give up their time to plan, organise and help out at events. Nor can it operate without the goodwill of all parents in supporting events and donating items.
We all understand how busy parents are, but we always need more help - “Every little helps” . So whether you wish to be a fully committed member or if you just want to help out from home, we would love to hear from you. We have a Facebook page for people who wish to help in any way they can and where we post for specific help required; Anything from doing a shop to manning an event. Please join the group.
