About the PTA at Bedgrove Infant School

What does the PTA do?

In the 2016/2017 academic year, Bedgrove Infant School PTA raised around £8,500 which was spent on extra resources for the school which directly benefit the education of all our children. Monies raised enable the school to purchase equipment that it could not otherwise afford. For example, the funds raised by the PTA in 2016/17 enabled us to contribute to books for the library, valuable movable whiteboards for F2, gardening equipment for F1 and school trips for each year group.

At the same time, the PTA try to provide a range of activities, events and treats which the children can enjoy, a number of fun events for all the family and even some great nights out for parents! In doing so the PTA aims to help create a greater sense of community for the school – enabling parents to feel more a part of their child’s school.

Who can join the PTA?

All parents of children at the school are automatically members of the PTA and are welcome to attend general committee meetings and the Annual General Meeting.

Who runs the PTA?

The PTA is managed by a Committee which consists of a Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer, Secretary and teacher representative. This Committee works with general committee members (i.e. parents who volunteer to get more directly involved in a range of ways and often attend PTA meetings) to plan and organise the range of activities, events and treats which the PTA lay on throughout the year.

General committee members can be involved as much or as little as they want or are able to be. For example, some have volunteered to coordinate particular activities such as the second hand uniform shop, food & refreshments or just to help out at the various events we run. Some simply attend meetings to assist in the planning of events. Either way, we are always delighted to welcome new members to the general committee or anyone interested in becoming a Committee member!

When does the PTA meet?

The general committee usually meets once a half term. We also set up sub-committees to plan and organise our larger events, such as the Christmas and Summer Fayre. Sub-committees may meet more frequently depending on the scale of the event.

Once a year we hold an Annual General Meeting at which the Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer and Secretary are elected and an annual report of our activities is presented. It is a great opportunity to get to know more about the PTA, to which everyone is welcome, and is usually a very social event helped along by drinks and nibbles!
