School Direct Early Years Course
Working in collaboration with Tommy Flowers SCITT, an outstanding ITT provider in Milton Keynes, the School Direct course we offer at Bedgrove Infant School has been developed to support teachers wishing to specialise with children aged 3-7. The course leads to a Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Tommy Flowers SCITT is an accredited provider enabling them to award QTS at the end of the course. The PGCE is accredited by Northumbria University.
WHY TRAIN WITH US?
Bedgrove Infant School has been an Outstanding School, as judged by Ofsted, since 2008 and this rating was maintained in our most recent inspection in June 2013 and again in a monitoring visit in 2018. We have a renowned reputation for our Early Years provision, making the best use of both the indoor and outdoor environments to stimulate children’s learning. We understand that teaching in the Early Years requires specific training focusing on the benefits of learning through play, the role of the adult and child development. We would like to support trainees in becoming the best Foundation Stage and KS1 teachers they can be whilst enabling them to understand teaching and learning from 3 through to 7 years of age.
Bedgrove Infant School, located in Aylesbury, has links with many schools in and around Buckinghamshire. It is ideally situated for school based training as it is accessible by good road and rail links from anywhere in Buckinghamshire and the towns on the edges of the adjoining counties of Oxfordshire, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire and we have developed partnerships with many local schools.

You must hold a bachelor’s degree with honours class 2.2 or above from a UK Higher Education Institution (HEI), or an equivalent qualification. The UK National Information Centre for the recognition and evaluation of international qualifications and skills (UK ENIC) can provide advice on the equivalence of overseas qualifications.
English language, Maths and Science GCSEs/O levels or equivalent qualifications at grade C/4 or above. A full list of accepted GCSE equivalent qualifications can be found here. We also accept equivalency tests from Equivalency Testing or A Star Equivalency. Please contact us if you are unsure if your qualifications are equivalent or to discuss your options.
Although not compulsory, it is beneficial for you to have some experience in a primary school. This than gives you a really good idea of what teaching in a school is like. This could be voluntary work or employment, for example as a Teaching Assistant. It is good practice for this to be in place before you apply for a place on the course.
